ÀåºÎ¿µ  2009-01-04 16:45:33, Á¶È¸ : 3,139

(3) G. C. Berkouwer (1903-1996)

1) He was born in 1903 in Holland, and after studying at the Free University in Amsterdam he became a pastor in the Gereformeerde Kerk, the breakaway Reformed church in Holland. He died in 1996.

2) He was a prolific author. instead of writing a systematic theology, he embarked upon a series of fourteen dogmatic studies.

3) He was influenced by Barth over the years, but he remained critical of some aspects of his theology.

4) In his early years Berkouwer followed B. B. Warfield in his doctrine of Scripture. But in the years following his appointment as professor he moved a less conservative position, which he expounds in his book.

5) He recognized that the Bible is God's word which is inspired by the Holy Spirit and points to the mystery of its being filled with truth and trustworthiness. He did not want to deny that the Bible is God's word. But he laid greater stress on the humanity of Scripture than did Warfield.
