Strategies for Cell Group (Commissioning Leaders)

Commissioning Leaders

Jesus Christ has commanded His disciples, "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you (Matt. 28:19-20)." This Great Commission of Jesus Christ had been, first of all, committed to His disciples at that time, and then has been committed to the Christian disciples who have been trained as the disciples by their pastors in the churches.

These disciples had aleady been trained as the disciples by the pastors or leaders. Therefore these disciples should be committed to go and make their disciples of all the people of the world for the growth of their church. This is commissioning.

When the leaders have been committed to go and work, they alredy had been adequately trained as leader so as to well lead their small group members (Becker 1993a, 58). First of all, they must be respectable to their members, and have an ability to lead them well (Becker 1993a, 59). Of course, they cannot be perfect, can be at least recognized as their leader by them.

After choosing and training them, the pastor should notify the trained leaders that they should be committed to lead their small/cell groups and that they have been invited to the steering committee (board committee) of the church (Becker 1993a, 59).

By this committee they should be affirmed, and then their commissioning should be announced to the congregation in the bulletine, and through pastoral announcement at the main worship service time such as the Sunday Morning Service (Becker 1993a, 60-61).

After such processes of the commissioning, the trained leaders will be sent to their lay-ministry fields, namely the small/cell group fields. At their ministry fields they will begin to work under the supervision of the supervisor or their pastor (Becker 1993a, 80-81).
