◉ Guidelines for Interpretation ((T.N. Sterrett, p. 96)
(Çؼ®À» À§ÇÑ °¡À̵å¶óÀÎ)

We can use these steps in interpreting the figures of comparison (ºñ±³ÀÇ ºñÀ¯µéÀ» Çؼ®ÇÏ´Â µ¥ À־ ´ÙÀ½°ú °°Àº ´Ü°è¸¦ ¹âÀ» ¼ö ÀÖ´Ù):

1. Notice whether the point of comparison is mentioned in the verse or context. (±¸ÀýÀ̳ª ¹®¸Æ¿¡¼ ºñ±³Á¡ÀÌ ¾ð±ÞµÇ¾î ÀÖ´ÂÁö¸¦ »ìÆì º¸¶ó)

If it is, take that as the key to interpretation (¸¸ÀÏ ¾ð±ÞµÇ¾î ÀÖ´Ù¸é, Çؼ®ÀÇ Å°·Î¼ ±×°ÍÀ» ÀÌ¿ëÇ϶ó); for example, in 1 Kings 12:4, the people say to Rehoboam, \"Your father made our yoke heavy.\"(´ç½Å ºÎÄ£Àº ¸Û¿¡¸¦ ¹«°Ì°Ô Çß´Ù) We can see from the context what they meant. (¿ì¸®´Â ±×µéÀÌ ÀǹÌÇÏ´Â °ÍÀ» ±× ¹®¸ÆÀ¸·ÎºÎÅÍ ¾Ë ¼ö ÀÖ´Ù).

2. If the point of comparison is not mentioned, consider the objects being compared and take the natural meaning as the most likely one. (¸¸ÀÏ ºñ±³ÀÇ ¿êÁ¡ÀÌ ¾ð±ÞµÇÁö ¾ÊÀº °æ¿ì¿¡´Â ºñ±³µÈ ´ë»óÀ» »ìÆ캸°í, °¡Àå ÀûÇÕÇÑ °ÍÀ¸·Î¼ ÀÚ¿¬½º·¯¿î Àǹ̸¦ ÃëÇ϶ó)

Isaiah 1:30, \"You shall be ... like a garden without water.\" (»ç 1:30) ³ÊÈñ´Â...¹° ¾ø´Â µ¿»ê °°À¸¸®´Ï). What would such a garden be, especially in the summer?

It would be dead, of course. That is the natural meaning of the image, and the context confirms the meaning of destruction.

3. Use parallel passages (if there are any). (¸¸ÀÏ º´Ç౸Àý/»ó»ç±¸ÀýÀÌ ÀÖÀ» °æ¿ì¿¡´Â ±× º´Çà ±¸ÀýÀ» »ç¿ëÇ϶ó)

Remembering that an object may have different meanings in different similes, use care. Do not use imagination so freely you arrive at strange interpretations. (ÇϳªÀÇ ´ëÇ×ÀÌ ´Ù¸¥ Á÷À¯µé¿¡¼ ´Ù¸¥ Àǹ̵éÀ» °¡Áú ¼ö ÀÖ´Ù´Â °ÍÀ» ±â¾ïÇÏ°í ÁÖÀÇÇ϶ó. Áö³ªÄ¡°Ô ÀÚÀ¯¹æÀÓ ÇÏ¿© ±âÀÌÇÑ Çؼ®¿¡ ºüÁöµµ·Ï ÇÏ´Â »ó»ó·ÂÀ» »ç¿ëÇÏÁö ¸»¶ó).

In Matthew 11:29 Jesus says, \"Take my yoke upon you.\" (³ªÀÇ ¸Û¿¡¸¦ ¸Þ°í). It is obviously a metaphor. But what does it mean? We need not speculate to get some hidden meaning. (¾î¶² ¼ûÀº ¶æÀ» ãÀ¸·Á°í »ç»öÇÒ ÇÊ¿ä´Â ¾ø´Ù).

Don't Genesis 27:40; Isaiah 47:6; and Jeremiah 27:8; 28:14 indicate plainly the meaning of having someone's yoke upon you? (â 27:40, »ç 47:6°ú ·½ 27:8; 28:14 µîÀÇ ±¸ÀýµéÀº ºÐ¸íÈ÷ ¾î¶² »ç¶÷ÀÌ ´ç½Å¿¡°Ô ¸Û¿¡¸¦ ¸Þ°Ô ÇÑ´Ù´Â ¶æÀ» ³ªÅ¸³»°í ÀÖ´Ù).
