Figures of Relation (°ü°è ºñ»ç, μÌõÝïÞö)
Àå¹Ù¿ï  2010-08-07 02:14:15, Á¶È¸ : 2,963

◉ Figures of Relation (T.N. Sterrett, p. 97)
(°ü°è ºñ»ç, μÌõÝïÞö

Next we will consider two figures of speech where one word is substituted for another which is related to it. A is mentioned but B is meant. (µÎ °¡Áö ºñ»ç¸¦ »ý°¢ÇÏ°Ô µÇ´Âµ¥, ÇϳªÀÇ ¸»ÀÌ ±×°Í¿¡ °ü·ÃµÈ ´Ù¸¥ ¸»À» ´ë½ÅÇÏ´Â °ÍÀÌ´Ù. A´Â ´ÜÁö B°¡ ÀǹÌÇÏ´Â °Í¸¸À» Áø¼úÇÑ´Ù).

3. Metonymy (ȯÀ¯, üµêç/ÀüÀ¯, îîë±) (p. 97)

(1) Metonymy is a figure of speech in which an idea is evoked or named by means of a term designating some associated notion. (ȯÀ¯¹ýÀº ¾î¶² °³³äÀ» ¿¬°üµÈ ¾î¶² °³³ä¿¡¼ À̲ø¾î³½ ¿ë¾î¿¡ ÀÇÇÏ¿© ºÒ¸®°Å³ª ¸í¸íµÈ ¸»À» Ç¥ÇöÇÏ´Â ºñ»ç¸¦ ¸»ÇÑ´Ù).

(2) The two words may be related (µÎ °³ÀÇ ´Ü¾î°¡ °ü·ÃµÉ ¼öµµ ÀÖ´Ù)

1) as cause and effect (¡°mine arrow is incurable,\" Job 34:6 AV, where arrow is used for the wound caused by the arrow);
(¿øÀΰú °á°ú·Î¼, ¡°³ªÀÇ È»ìÀÌ ³´Áö ¸øÇÏ°Ô µÇ¾ú³ë¶ó¡±¿¡¼ È»ìÀº ±× È»ì·Î ÀÎÇÏ¿© ¹ÞÀº »óó¿¡ ´ëÇÏ¿© »ç¿ëµÈ °ÍÀÌ´Ù)

2) as a sign for something signified (¹«¾ùÀΰ¡¸¦ ÀǹÌÇϴ ǥ½Ã·Î¼, \"the key of David,\" Rev. 3:7, where key is substituted for the authority it represents, ´ÙÀÀÇ ¿¼èÀÇ ¿¼è´Â ±×°ÍÀÌ ³ªÅ¸³»´Â ±ÇÀ§ÀÇ ´ë¿ëµÇ´Â °ÍÀÌ´Ù);

3) as an other for his writing (\"whenever Moses is read,\" 2 Cor. 3:15, where Moses is mentioned to represent his writing); or

4) as a place used for people (»ç¶÷µéÀ» À§ÇÏ¿© »ç¿ëµÈ ¾î¶² Àå¼Ò \"there went out... all the country of Judea,\" Mt. 3:5, where Judea stands for its people¿¡¼ À¯´ë´Â ±× ³ª¶ó »ç¶÷µéÀ» ´ë½ÅÇÑ´Ù).

(3) Other references to investigate are Genesis 49:10; Deuteronomy 17:6 (AV); Joshua 10:21; Proverbs 10:21; Jeremiah 21:7, 10; Hosea 1:2; Acts 6:7; 11:23; 1 Corinthians 10:21.

4. Synecdoche (Á¦À¯, ð«êç) (p. 97 /Berkhof p. 84)

(1) Synecdoche is a figure of speech by which a more inclusive term is used for a less inclusive term or vice versa. (Á¦À¯´Â º¸´Ù Æ÷ÇÔÀûÀÎ ¿ë¾î°¡ ¹èŸÀûÀÎ ¿ë¾î³ª ȤÀº ¿ªÀ¸·Î »ç¿ëµÈ ¸»ÀÇ ºñÀ¯ÀÌ´Ù)

(2) A part is put for the whole, or the whole for a part; singular for plural, or plural for singular. (ÀϺΰ¡ Àüü¸¦, ȤÀº Àüü°¡ ÀϺθ¦, ´Ü¼ö°¡ º¹¼ö¸¦, ¶Ç´Â º¹¼ö°¡ ´Ü¼ö¸¦ ´ë½ÅÇÏ¿© Ç¥ÇöÇÏ´Â °ÍÀÌ´Ù)

(3) Genesis 42:38(AV), \"Then shall ye bring down my grey hairs with sorrow to the grave.\" (³ÊÈñ°¡ ³ªÀÇ Èò¸Ó¸®·Î ½½ÇÇ À½ºÎ·Î ³»·Á°¡°Ô ÇÔÀÌ µÇ¸®¶ó).

The speaker has in mind not only his hairs but all of himself. \"Bring me down to the grave\" is the meaning. (ÈÀÚ´Â ±×ÀÇ ¸Ó¸®»Ó¸¸ ¾Æ´Ï¶ó ±× ÀÚ½ÅÀÇ ¸ðµç °ÍÀ» ¿°µÎ¿¡ µÎ°í ÀÖ´Ù. ¡°³ª·Î À½ºÎ¿¡ ³»·Á°¡°Ô ÇÔ¡±ÀÌ ±× ¶æÀÌ´Ù).
(4) A part is given for the whole. Jeremiah 25:29, \"I am summoning a sword against all the inhabitants of the earth.\" One sword only? No, one represents many; the singular is used for the plural. (ÀϺημ Àüü¸¦ ³ªÅ¸³½ °ÍÀÌ´Ù. ·½ 25:29, ¡°³»°¡ Ä®À» ºÒ·¯ ¼¼»óÀÇ ¸ðµç °Å¹ÎÀ» Ä¥ °ÍÀÓÀ̴϶ó.¡± ´ÜÁö ÇϳªÀÇ Ä®? ¾Æ´Ï, Çϳª´Â ¸¹Àº °ÍÀ» ³ªÅ¸³½´Ù. ±× ´Ü¼ö°¡ º¹¼ö¸¦ ´ë½ÅÇÏ¿© »ç¿ëµÇ¾ú´Ù).

(5) For further study consider Joshua 7:1, 11; 1 Samuel 14:45; 2 Samuel 16:21; Job 29:11; Isaiah 2:4; Matthew 6:11; 12:40 (is this whole for part?).

(6) To interpret uses of metonymy and synecdoche use these two guidelines: (ÀüÀ¯¿Í Á¦À¯ÀÇ ¿ë¹ýÀ» Çؼ®ÇÏ·Á¸é, ÀÌ µÎ °¡Áö °¡À̵å¶óÀÎÀ» »ç¿ëÇ϶ó).

1. Observe carefully. (ÁÖÀÇ ±í°Ô °üÂûÇ϶ó)

Does the literal meaning make non sense or confusion? Isaiah 22:22 says, \"I will place on his shoulder the key of the house of David.\" (¹®ÀÚÀû Àǹ̰¡ ÅëÇÏ´ÂÁö ¾Æ´Ï¸é È¥µ¿À» ÀÏÀ¸Å°´ÂÁö¸¦ »ìÆ캸¶ó). »ç 22:22, ¡°±×ÀÌ ¾î±ú¿¡ ´ÙÀÀÇ ÁýÀÇ ¿¼è¸¦ µÎ¸®¶ó)

We laugh when we picture this literally, but as a figure it shows authority and importance. (¹®ÀÚ´ë·Î º¸¸é ¿ì½º¿î °ÍÀÌ´Ù. ±×·¯³ª ºñÀ¯ÀûÀ¸·Î º¸¸é ±×°ÍÀº ±ÇÀ§¿Í Á߿伺À» ³ªÅ¸³½´Ù).

2. Use the context and the situation in the passage to arrive at the figurative meaning. (»ó¡ÀûÀÎ Àǹ̿¡ µµ´ÞÇÏ·Á¸é ±× ±¸ÀýÀÇ ¹®¸Æ°ú »óȲÀ» ÀÌ¿ëÇ϶ó)
Deuteronomy 19:15 (AV) speaks of \"the mouth of two witnesses.\" Studying the context, what does mouth mean? It stands for \"speaking, giving testimony.\"
