1. The Situation of Mission field (3)
(1) Conservative Mission (to be continued from above)
On the one hand professor Dong Sik Yoo thought that the
Gospel has been changed in quality because it was received
on the basis of Confucianism at that time, on the other hand
professor Yang Sun Kim has emphasized that there must be
just kept it in mind that the thought of earlier missionaries in
Korea has broken the Confucian formalism and the Buddhist
delusion which has been deep-rooted in the mind of Korean
people during thousand of years and has established the
churches on the land without difficulty and firmly because
their theological thought was very simple and conservative.
Thus it leaves no room for doubt that the history of the early
Church in Korea must be that of Conservative and Evangelical
Christianity.
(2) Contamination by Liberalism
But it is impossible to preserve the pure well of history
undefiled in the fallen world. Even in the Korean Church on
the firm basis of the Conservatism, there has been found first
evidences of the contamination of Liberalism in Korean
Church history from the resolution of the General Assembly
of Korean Presbyterian Church in 1917; the decision of the
General Assembly of Korean Presbyterian Church for the
graduates of the other Seminaries.
This is, I think, the policy of the General Assembly to wary
about the pollution of the theological thought of Liberalism
because there are some ministers returned from study abroad
in Germany and Japan among them. Korean Church has not
slackened her efforts to protect the contamination of thought
of Liberal theology but it has begun to come from not others
far off but the missionaries from which she has received the
Gospel.
At last, the true character of the Liberalism has begun to be
exposed through the suspension from the pastoral office of
Chang Ho Kim. The Liberal theological thought is the higher
criticism on the Bible in reation to Moses’ authorship of the
Pentateuch, and this thought has contaminated pastor Chang
Ho Kim by W. C. Kerr an American Missionary.

(1) 보수주의적 선교 (앞에서 계속)
한편, 당시 유교적 바탕위에 복음을 받아들였기 때문에 복음의
본질이 변했다고 보는 유동신 교수와 반대로 김양선 교수는 오
히려 초대 선교사들의 신학사상은 매우 단순하고 보수적이었
기 때문에 수천 년 동안 한국민족의 마음속에 뿌리박혀 있던
유교의 형식주의와 불교의 미망을 깨뜨려버리고 이 땅위에 그
리스도의 교회를 매우 용이하고 튼튼하게 건설하게 된 것을 명
심해야 할 것이라고 역설했다.
이렇게 한국 초대교회의 역사는 보수주의적 복음주의의 기독
교 역사임이 틀림없다는 것은 의심할 여지가 없는 사실이다.
(2) 자유주의에의 오염
그러나 타락한 세계에 있어서 역사의 순수성이 유지되기는 불
가능한 것이다. 보수주의의 튼튼한 보루위에 건설된 한국교회
도 자유주의의 오염으로 경종이 울린 교회사의 흔적이 처음 보
인 것은 1917년 총회의 결의에서 찾아볼 수 있다. 다른 신학을
졸업한 자에 대한 총회의 규정사실이 있었다. 이것은 벌써 한
국 교역자들 중에 독일이나 일본 등에 유학한 사람들이 있어
자유주의 신학의 오염을 염려하여 취한 방침이라고 볼 수 있
다. 한국교회는 자유주의 신학사상의 오염을 막기 위하여 경계
를 게을리 하지 않았으나 자유주의는 다른 먼데 사람에게서가
아니라 처음 선교를 받았던 선교사에게서 침투되어 때 묻기 시
작하였다.
드디어, 1918년 7월 조선기독교회의 김장호 목사의 정직처분
에서 급기야 자유주의의 정체가 드러나기 시작하였다. 이 자유
주의 신학사상이란 모세오경의 모세의 저작권문제에 관련된
성경에 대한 고등비평 사상으로 미국 선교사 공위량(W. C.
Kerr)을 통하여 김장호 목사에게 오염된 것이다. ⛪️⛪️⛪️
