교회 분쟁이 극단으로 치닫는 이유(The Reason Church Fight Goes to Extremes)-영어/한글
Church disputes seem harder to settle than those of secular organizations because both parties consider their dispute a spiritual battle. Because the leaders of the conflicting parties are usually people who truly love God and the church, each automatically assumes God is on their side and the opponents are agents of Satan. A compromise is not permissible, a total victory is the only option. This line of thought makes them to go to extremes.
But loving God doesn’t guarantee that God is on your side. Apostle Peter, who may have loved Jesus more than anyone else on earth, was rebuked for acting as an agent for Satan when he tried to discourage Jesus from going to His atoning death[Mat 16:23]. If someone like Peter could be used by Satan to hinder God’s work, it’s almost trivial for Satan to use you to destroy the church no matter how much you love God.
Pastors and church leaders therefore shouldn’t automatically assume God is on their side when disputes arise. Rather, they should search their hearts and examine their actions to see whether or not they are helping Satan’s cause or God’s.
Is there a way to know for sure if God is on your side? Yes, there is. God takes the side of people who repent and forgive. God fights for these people. Some house church pastors held on to this principle and prevented church disputes from turning into major conflicts that might have ultimately dishonored Jesus.

교회 분쟁이 시작되면 극단으로 치닫아 편이 갈리고, 소송하고, 교회를 찢는 수가 많습니다. 이유는, 분쟁 당사자들이 진정으로 하나님을 사랑하고, 교회를 사랑하기 때문입니다. 하나님을 사랑하고 교회를 사랑하니까, 당연히 하나님이 자신의 편이라고 생각하고, 자신을 반대하는 사람은 하나님을 대적하는 사단의 하수인이라고 생각합니다. 그렇기 때문에 타협이 있을 수 없고, 극단으로 치닫더라도 승리해야 합니다.
그러나 하나님과 교회를 사랑한다는 것이 하나님이 자신의 편이라는 보장이 되지 않습니다.
예수님이 가이사라 빌립보에서 자신이 누구냐고 물었을 때, 제자 베드로가 “선생님은 살아 계신 하나님의 아들 그리스도십니다.[마태 16:16]”라고 답했습니다. 예수님께서 기뻐하시면서 자신의 죽음에 관해 구체적으로 예고하셨습니다. 이때 베드로가 그러시면 안 된다고 예수님을 꾸짖다가 “사탄아, 내 뒤로 물러가라. 너는 나에게 걸림돌이다.”라는 충격의 말을 들었습니다[마태 16:23].
누구보다도 예수님을 사랑했던 사도 베드로가 사단에게 이용 당해 예수님에게 걸림돌이 되었다면, 하나님과 교회를 아무리 사랑한다 할지라도, 우리들이 사단에게 이용당하여 교회를 흔들어놓거나 무너뜨리는 것은 너무나도 쉽지 않겠습니까?
교회에 분쟁이 생겼을 때 집사, 장로, 특히 목사는 자동적으로 하나님이 자신의 편일 것이라고 생각해서는 안됩니다. 오히려 자신이 사단에게 이용 당하고 있지 않은가 진지하게 살펴야 합니다.
하나님이 나의 편이라는 것을 확신할 수 있는 방법은 없을까?
하나님은 회개하는 사람 편이고, 용서하는 사람 편입니다. 회개하고 용서하는 사람들에게 하나님께서 확실한 편이 되어 대신 싸워주십니다. 가정교회에는 이 원리를 사용하여 교회의 위상을 실추시킬 수 있는 큰 교회 갈등을 은혜롭게 해결한 목회자들이 꽤 있습니다.
