몰라서가 아닙니다 (Not Because They Do Not Know)-영어/한글
Many pastors still seem to live in the age of Enlightenment which prevailed in Europe in the 17th and 18th centuries.
A foundational belief during the Age of Enlightenment was that ignorance was the root problem of humanity. It was believed that reason and education would usher in a utopian society.
This idea, however, received a fatal blow with the Holocaust. Germany was considered one of the most educated countries in Europe, yet they committed a horrendous crime. With this, the ideas of the Enlightenment lost its steam.
But many pastors are still clinging to this basic tenet of the Enlightenment. They believe that their church members will achieve spiritual maturity if they get enough Bible knowledge. They believe good preaching and teaching will make them become like Jesus.
The lack of spiritual growth in most churches, however, is not due to a lack of knowledge but the absence of practical guidelines for godly living and a place to practice what they learn.
People change only in the context of community. Spiritual maturity is achieved when community members share their lives with others who are different in personality, temperament, and experiences, and try to get along with them. As they strive to overcome these differences and love one another, they become like Jesus.
This is why you can see house church members changing because they have a place to practice what they learn from preaching and teaching.

많은 목사님들이 17~18세기 유럽을 풍미했던 계몽주의에 머물러 있는 것 같습니다.
계몽주의자들은 인간의 문제를 무지로 보았습니다. 교육을 통해 인간의 이성과 합리성이 개발되면 인간의 문제가 사라지고 이상향이 이루어질 것이라고 믿었습니다. 그러나 교육 수준이 높았고, 많은 철학가와 사상가를 배출해 낸 독일이 나치즘에 빠져 유대인을 학살하면서 계몽주의는 무너졌습니다.
그런데 이런 계몽주의가 오늘날에 목회자들을 통해 명맥을 이어가고 있습니다. 많은 목회자들이 교인들의 문제가 무지라고 생각합니다. 성경 공부를 통해 배우고, 설교를 통해 깨달으면, 삶이 변할 것이라고 믿습니다. 목회의 모든 에너지가 가르치고, 깨닫게 하는 데 쏟아져있습니다.
그러나 오늘날 성도들의 삶이 바뀌지 않는 것은, 몰라서나, 깨닫지 못해서가 아닙니다. 구체적인 방법을 모르기 때문입니다. 듣고 배운 것을 실천해볼 연습장이 없기 때문입니다.
삶의 변화는 공동체 안에서만 가능합니다. 성격, 성품, 직업, 자라온 배경이 다른 사람들과 부대끼면서 갈등을 맛보고, 서로를 용납하고, 섬기고, 사랑하려 노력하면서 변해갑니다. 더불어 살기 위해서는 자신이 변하지 않고는 안 된다는 것을 깨달으면서, 예수님을 닮아갑니다.
목장이라는 공동체가 있는 가정교회에서 성도들의 삶이 변하는 이유입니다.
