슬픈 크리스마스 (Sad Christmas)-영어/한글
This Christmas season I have been sad, almost to tears, because of the treatment Jesus is receiving these days. Christmas is the time to celebrate the birth of Jesus, but He is being ignored and despised.
In the US, the traditional greeting of “Merry Christmas!” has been replaced with “Happy Holidays!” It is illegal to display a Nativity scene in some places. The name of Jesus has become curse words. People say, “Christ!” or “Jesus!” in anger.
When I saw Korean soccer fans on TV jumping up and down with joy when Korea made the top sixteen in the World Cup Tournament, I cried. Jesus is the true hero who conquered sin, sickness, Satan, and ultimately death, but he is not receiving the adoration even a soccer player enjoys.
A recent survey shows that only 8% of Koreans have a favorable view of Christians. The word “Christian” means Christ’s people. Such a negative view of Christians gives the impression that Jesus is someone utterly insignificant. I feel responsible, ashamed, and sad.
When Jesus comes again, He will come as the Lord and the King. All nations and people will acknowledge that He is the Savior and the Judge. Until that time, when we Christians gather to worship, we should lift up His name, declaring He is the Savior, the victor, and the eternal God.

금년 크리스마스에는 웬일인지 마음이 슬픕니다. 시도 때도 없이 눈물이 납니다. 성탄절은 예수님의 탄생을 축하하는 날인데, 예수님이 무시되거나 거부되고 있기 때문입니다. 미국에서는 “Merry Christmas!”라는 성탄절 인사 가 “Happy Holiday!”로 대치되었습니다. 크리스마스 트리 전시를 법적으로 금지하는 도시도 생겼습니다. 욕할 때에는 예수님의 이름을 부릅니다. “Christ!”, “ Jesus!” 등.
대한민국 축구팀이 월드 컵 16강 진출이 확정되어 사람들이 환호하며 기뻐 뛸 때 눈물이 났습니다. 주님은 온 인류의 구세주이고, 죄와 질병과 사단과 죽음을 정복하신 진정한 영웅인데, 축구 선수들이 받는 환대조차 못 받으시는 것 같아 슬펐습니다.
최근 설문조사에 의하여 대한민국 국민 가운데 기독교에게 호감을 갖고 있는 사람은 8%밖에 안 된답니다. 92%가 기독교에 대한 부정적인 생각을 갖고 있다는 뜻입니다. “크리스천(Christian)”이란 헬라 단어는 그리스도의 사람이라는 뜻입니다. 우리 기독교인들이 바른 삶을 살지 못하기 때문에 예수님의 명예를 실추시키고 있구나 싶어서 속상하고, 죄송스럽고, 슬픕니다.
언젠가 주님께서 재림하실 때에는 온 나라와 민족이 예수님을 구세주와 왕으로 고백하게 될 것입니다. 그날이 올 때까지 하나님의 백성만이라도, 그 이름을 높여야겠습니다. 예배 때마다 그리스도가 구원자이시고, 승리의 왕이시고, 영원한 하나님이시라는 것을 고백해야 하겠습니다.
오늘날 예배에서 성부 하나님과 성령 하나님은 높이는데, 성자 하나님은 무시되는 것 같습니다.
