목사가 알고 싶은 성도의 속마음 (Reading Laypeople’s Mind)-Kor/Eng
목회가 힘들다고 하는 분들이 많습니다. 그러나 저는 목회가 항상 재미있었습니다. 가장 큰 이유는 40세까지 평신도로 살았기 때문이 아닌가 생각합니다.
저는 평신도로 오래 사역하다가 41세에 신학원에 입학하여 44세에 목사 안수를 받았습니다. 목회자가 된 후에, 평신도 때 목회자들이 했으면 했던 것을 하고, 목회자들이 하지 말았으면 했던 것을 안 하니까, 성도들이 행복해 했고 목회가 쉽고 재미 있었습니다.
성도들의 마음만 알아주면 목회도 쉽고 성도들도 행복해 하는데, 그것을 못하는 목회자들이 안타까워서 ‘목사가 알고 싶은 성도의 속마음’이라는 제목의 책을 집필하여, 규장을 통해 2004년에 출간하였습니다.
그런데 이 책이 절판이 되어서 책을 구할 수가 없었습니다. 이 책이 재출판 되기를 원하는 분들이 꽤 있어서, (어떤 목회자는 제가 저술한 책 중에서 이 책이 가장 도움이 되었다고 합니다. ^^; ) 규장에서 저작권을 회수해서 엎드림 출판사를 통하여 지난 주에 재출간하였습니다.
성도들의 마음을 이해하지 못해서 답답해 하는 목사님들, 특별히 직장 생활을 안 해본 목회자들에게 이 책이 도움이 되면 좋겠습니다.

Many pastors lament that pastoral ministry is hard, but I have never felt that way. Pastoral ministry has been exciting and fun! One reason this may be the case for me is because I had been a layman for 40 years before going to seminary to become a pastor.
My ministry principle has been simple. When I was a layperson, there were things I wished pastors would do. I tried to do those things after I became a pastor. There were also things I wished pastors would not do. I tried not to do those things. Following this principle seemed to make church members happy and willing to be my ministry partners.
Many pastors don’t understand laypeople’s lives, especially pastors who never worked a secular job. To help these pastors, I authored a book entitled “A Guide For Pastors In Understanding Laypeople” in 2004 (not translated in English). It’s been out of print, but I have been asked frequently to have it published again.
A different publishing company recently published a second edition of the book. They are on sale now. I hope the book will help those pastors struggling to motivate laypeople due to a lack of understanding.
