ÀåºÎ¿µ  2008-11-30 00:08:50, Á¶È¸ : 2,475

10. Francis of Assisi (1181-1266)

(1) He was born in 1181/82, the son of Peter Bernardone, wealthy cloth merchant of Assisi. He is the best-loved of mediaeval saints.

(2) He heard a voice telling him to rebuild the church while he was praying in a ruined church outside Assisi.

(3) He sold some of his father's cloth to raise money in an excess of zeal, and his father took him to the bishop's court in an attempt to recover the money. at that moment he, in dramatic gesture, stripped naked and returned all of his clothes to his father. From now on he would have only one Father in heaven.

(4) He began to live a wandering life of poverty. One day he heard Matthew 10:7-10 read in church and this came to him as a personal call - he was to go forth and minister in poverty, as had the apostles.

(5) He wrote several works, and He died in 1266.

1) Primitive Rule (1209/10)

2) First Rule (1221)
3) Second Rule (1223)
4) Canticle of Brother Sun (1225)
5) Testament (1266)

(6) He live a free and spontaneous life of total poverty. The Franciscans were not to own property, but a 'spiritual friend' could own it for them and allow them to make use of it.
