ÀåºÎ¿µ  2008-10-11 14:16:18, Á¶È¸ : 2,555

2. Apostolic Fathers

The apostolic Fathers are the earliest Christian writers outside of the New Testament, belonging to what is called the 'sub-apostolic age'. Their writings form a bridge between in the New Testament and the Apologists who wrote later in the second century (Clement, Ignatius and Polycarp).

(1) Justine Martyr

1) He was born of Greek parents in Palestine (125 AD), and he was martyred (166 AD).

2) He looked for the truth in Greek philosophy
3) First he attached himself to a Stoic philosopher.
4) He after that followed an Aristotelian.
5) He once left him to be no philosopher at all.
6) He next tried a follower of Pythagoras.
7) He once went to a well-known Platonist.
8) He after all became a Christian.
9) His three apologies:
¨ç I Apology: a defence of the Christian faith, address to the emperor.
¨è II Apology: a shorter supplement to the I Apology, address to the Roman senate.

¨é Dialogue with Trypho: the record of the long and courteous debate which he had with a Jew called Trypho (Conversion).
