(3) Tertullian

1) He was a Father of Latin theology
2) He was born around the year 160 AD at Charthage into a pagan Roman family, and educated in rhetoric and law.

3) He became a Christian in the year 193 AD.

4) He wrote extensively as an advocate for the Christian faith for the remainder of his life.

5) Once he supported the Catholic church and followed Montanism.
6) He was the first important Christian to write in Latin. (cf. Origen)
7) He wrote more than thirty works, which fall into three groups:

¨ç Apologetic works: the most famous of these is called Apology. These were the Apologies which had been sent to the Jews, Heresies, Gnosticism Marcion, and the Roman government.

¨è Dogmaticalanti-heretical works: he was against Gnosticism, Greek philosophy(Stoicism), Marcion, and Monachianism. He advocated the Christian theology on the baptism, the personality of Christ, and Resurrection.

¨é Practical works: (Christian ethics): He wrote may works on practical ethical matters, especially to do with church discipline.

Those were things to do with celibacy, attire, monogamy, sexual purity, fasting, theater and so on.

8) Tertullian was concerned about the doctrine of Trinity like Origen. He, in answering Praxeas, stated that God is one substance in three persons.
