The Synthetic Statement Of The Philosophical Theology
All philosophers have themselves been religious who are implicit or explicit, and they depend upon this religiosity. Whether they call this religious aspect religiosity or not, it has no problem. At any rate, man has something that he is absolutely, seriously, and truly thinking about.
It can be called religiosity. Every one has the ultimate concern about this religiosity. After examining the background of their philosophy in detail, all philosophers must have the religiosity in the base.
And also no theologians must use nature, human being, history, time, space, cause, reality, world, spirit, and concept of flesh to which it has become the object of philosophy. No theologians can get out of these conceptions. Therefore theologian must be philosopher, and this must be at the same time.
According to all these statements by Paul Tillich, we can conclude that his God must be no more than the Ultimate Concern, and Authority in the religiosity mentioned above.
His God is not the God of the Bible as Creator and Savior. Also, He is not the Lord God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob as the One of personality, and the One of Providence. Tillich's God is no more than Ultimate Concern located in the reasons of man. This Ultimate Concern has Tillich explained as God who must be a symbolic One.
God as a Reality or a Symbol
