FOUR VIEWS OF SALVATION IN
A PLURALISTIC WORLD

[INTRODUCTION]

(A) The Challenge of Religious Pluralism

1. There are many kinds of religion in the world.

2. Whether or not theists and atheists, they have a salvation program.

3. Christianity was born in a religiously pluralistic world.

4. Christianity has confronted all the religions in the world.

(1) African traditional religions
(2) Virtuous Hindus
(3) Buddhism and Confucianism
(4) Judaism and Muslim
(5) Other religious groups

5. Christianity's historical particularity was confront with the question of fairness and justice during the Enlightenment (How could a loving God fail to offer salvation to all?)

6. By the late nineteenth century, historicism, with its heightened awareness of cultural and religious relativities, challenged the inclusivists' normative claim that Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of religion.

7. The late twentieth century has heightened the dialogue regarding other religion.
In fact, today's Christianity has been challenged by the pluralism.

8. In this pluralistic environment, normative religious claims are increasingly difficult to maintain.

9. Pluralistic ideologies pervade the conservative Christian constituency to no less degree in this world.
