6. Taking the Pressure off Redemption
The word kairos appears in two verses commonly quoted by biblically minded time managers: Ephesians 5:16 and Colossians 4:5, both translated \\\"Redeeming the time\\\" in the King James Version(Buy up your opportunity).
(1) Kairos does not means that it squeezes more activity into less time (chronos). It does not make the best possible use of your time.
(2) Kairos could be translated into \\\"opportunity\\\" that it is an opportunity which Paul urges the churches, and us, to redeem.
1) Colossians 4:5
¨ç It concerns the dealings with non-Christians, \\\"outsiders.\\\"
¨è Paul urges the Colossians to be wise, to be \\\"full of grace\\\" in their conversation with unbelievers.
¨é They are to be discerning, perceptive of the opportunities, and to have appropriate, fitting explanations of their faith.
2) Ephesians 5:16
¨ç In this context, as in Colossians, the emphasis of the kairos is made on discerning priorities.
¨è Of course, the Ephesians are to understand God's will. and that means having a right perceptive on thins, which is only possible if they are filled with the Spirit and not fuzzy headed with strong drink.
¨é We are, of course, to be active in the service of the King. But a cursory reading of the Sermon on the Mountain or one of Paul's epistles leaves even the most energetic advocate of \\\"victorious Christian living\\\" with doubts about our ability to be faithful servants.
