[Types and Methods of Expository Preaching] (01)

Introduction (서론)
Hereafter I am going to continuously upload the types and methods of Expository Preaching in series. In general, we have known the expository preaching as the exegetical expository preaching alone, but I don’t think so. In case of preaching on the text of the Bible, it may be good to select the method of effective expository preaching according to the nature of the text after studies in the various types of expository preaching.
The preacher has to firmly hold the words of truth, and fully understand, and then clearly preach the words of God. Most of the expository sermons have been divided to one of five categories. There are some preachers who deal with the Bible text in too much detail to be extended. In this case, the preachers should illustrate all verses of the text, verse by verse for their preaching.
And also the preachers should often skip the much detail in the process of preaching, and intensively deal with the highlights of the special passages and the important issues of the preaching, while another preachers select one passage, and wrestle with the problem of which it suggests with an effective possibility of the preaching as if the jeweler can make the jewel sparkle in its various faces.
Such types of preaching have been divided to five patterns, that is, intensive preaching, extensive preaching, selective preaching, reflective preaching, and exegetical preaching. Of course, besides, it can be thought of the reference preaching in which should deal with various texts of the Scriptures under the same theme of one sermon at the same time. For example, the texts of the Scriptures of which are Gen. 22:7, John 1:36; and Rev. 5:12 can be mapped out under the topic of the sermon “The Lamb of God.”
(1) “Where is the Lamb?”
(2) “See the Lamb of God”
(3) “The Lamb Worthy to have Honor”
In other words, we can preach the topic “The Lamb” as the above using various texts of the Scripture. In this case there is a weak point that it can not dividedly deal with the texts which have been given from the Scriptures no more than the simple transformation of intensive preaching and extensive preaching. And we can think of the exegetical preaching in which the passages should be explained verse by verse. Recently many of the preachers seem to misunderstand this textual exegetical preaching as the whole one of expository preachings. But we should remember there are the important types of sermons but this exegetical preaching as mentioned above.
Even if there are various types of expository preaching, in generally, it can be summarized in five types as mentioned above. Therefore I am going to look into the five types of expository preaching as mentioned above one by one in detail. It is most important for the preacher to select one of the five types of expository preaching. In so doing, he should receive the theme and text of the preaching inspiration through the Holy Spirit, and take the preaching context under consideration. And he should preach in effect according to the feature. ✝️✝️✝️
