And thus, the General Assembly took the victory over the
Liberalism against which they had a long run debating but
had to confuse at the challenge of International Liberalism
into which had been flowing as a tide having no time when
they could recover their breath.
The General Assembly had to handle the relationship between
W.C.C. and the Northern Presbyterian Church in the United
States of America with which they had related by that time. It
is very difficult to solve this problem. Rev. Kim, Hyun Jung and
Rev. Myong Shin Hong, who had attended the W.C.C.
Conference held at Evanston in America in 1954, made the
difficult reports to the General Assembly nominated Rev. Han,
Kyung Jik, Ahn, Kwang Kuk, Chon, Phill Soon, Yoo, Ho Joon,
Hwang, Eun Kyun, Park, Hyong Yong and Chung, Kyu Oh as
the members of the Research Committee and let them report
the result.
But the 43th General Assembly was held in 1958 without
solving the problem because of the different reports each
other. This problem spread over the whole churches in the
country our of the General Assembly and the statements were
issued between both of them. Therefore there was in
confusion worse confounded.

이렇게 하여 총회는 끈덕지게 벌려 왔던 자유주의와의 투쟁을
일단 성공적으로 끝냈으나 숨돌릴 사이도 없이 물밀 듯이 닥치
는 국제적인 자유주의의 도전에 당황하지 않을 수 없었다.
총회는 이미 맺고 있던 북장로교회와 W.C.C.와의 유대관계를 어
떻게 처리하느냐 하는 문제를 안고 씨름해야만 할 운명에 부닥
친 것이다. 1954년 미국 에반스토에서 열린 W.C.C. 대회에 한국
대표로 참석했던 김현정, 목사와 명신홍 목사 사이에 서로 상이
한 귀국 보고를 했고 이에 대하여 총회는 W.C.C. 연구원원회를
설치하여 한경직, 안광국, 전필수, 유호준, 황은균, 박형룡, 정규
오 등 제씨를 임명하여 연구 보고케 하였다.
그러나 여기서도 상반된 견해 차이로 완전한 결론을 내리지 못
한 채 1958년 제43회 총회를 맞게 되었다. 이 문제는 급기야 총
회 밖으로 확대되어 전국 교회에 파급되었으며 W.C.C. 문제를
놓고 성명을 발표하는 등 찬반 운동으로 혼란의 혼란을 거듭하
