지옥은 자원해서 가는 곳 (The Hell Is Where People Choose to Go)-영어/한글
Jesus described hell as a place of perpetual burning. But He also described it as a cold, dark place [Mat 8:12]. I think it’s more accurate to understand hell in terms of relationship rather than a place. It is the place where unrepentant people are completely separated from God. With the absence of God, who is love itself, it can only be a tormenting state of being, like being burned or being frozen to death.
This world is sinful and broken but still under God’s grace. God’s image in mankind is not completely lost. That’s why people, good or bad, still praise charity, royalty, truth, and sacrifice. When God’s grace is completely removed, as it is in hell, there will be nothing but hate, loathing, anger, and regret.
Sin is the conscientious human decision to live life without God. It’s the declaration that one is the manager of his own life, a god to himself.
If God takes such a person to heaven forcefully after he dies, he would be utterly miserable. He has denied the true God, avoided Him, ignored Him, and hated Him his entire life. How can he live with the God he has so long loathed for eternity?
When people reject the gospel, they chose hell over heaven. The hell that comes after death is only the completion of the hell they are now experiencing, only without God’s grace.
Hell is not the place where God sends people but the place where people choose to go.

예수 안 믿으면 지옥에 간다고 하면, 크리스천보다 바르게 사는 사람들을 예수 믿지 않는다는 이유 하나만으로 지옥으로 보낸다는 것은 불공평하다고 말하는 사람들이 있습니다. 지옥을 바르게 이해하지 못하기 때문입니다.
지옥을 예수님께서는 불붙는 곳으로 자주 묘사하셨습니다. 그러나 때로는 춥고 어두운 곳으로 묘사하기도 하셨습니다(마 8:12). 이런 것들은 상징적인 표현이고, 지옥은 장소라기보다 관계라는 의미입니다.
하나님의 사랑 안에서 사는 것이 천국이고, 하나님의 사랑과 단절되어 사는 것이 지옥입니다. 그러므로 천국도 지옥도 이 세상에서 맛봅니다. 죽은 후에 가는 천국과 지옥은, 세상에서 이미 맛보고 있는 천국과 지옥이 완성되는 곳입니다.
이 세상은 부패했지만, 아직 하나님의 임재 안에 있습니다. 인간이 타락했지만 아직 하나님의 형상을 지니고 있습니다. 그래서 사랑, 정의, 의리, 희생 등을 찬양합니다. 그러나 죽은 후에 가는 지옥에서는 하나님의 사랑과 완전히 단절됩니다. 웃음, 기쁨, 평안은 완전히 사라지고 오로지 원망, 회한, 증오심, 절망감만 남을 것입니다.
죄란, 하나님 대신 자신의 인생이 주인이 되어 살겠다는 인간의 의지적인 선택입니다. 회개하기를 거부하는 사람들을 죽은 후에 강제로 천국에 데려간다면, 이 사람들이 받는 고통은 지옥보다 더 클 것입니다. 싫어했고, 미워했고, 존재 자체를 부인했던 하나님의 통치 밑에서 사는 것을 도저히 감당 못할 것입니다.
지옥은 하나님께서 보내신다기보다, 인간이 스스로 선택해서 가는 곳입니다.
