삼천포로 빠지지 않으려면( Good Beginning, Bad Ending)- 영어/한글
Many Christian leaders lamented the ills of the Korean Churches and have tried to reform the churches with little success.
I think the fruitlessness of their work is due to a faulty diagnosis. They have been attacking the symptoms of the problems, instead of the cause. The root cause, I believe, is losing sight of Jesus’ mission for the church.
In His Great Commission in Matthew 28:19-20, Jesus commands us to go to all nations and make disciples. So the mission of the church is to reach non-believers and make them disciples of Jesus. When this command is ignored, all the ills we are seeing in today’s churches ensue. In fact, when a church loses sight of the mission given to us by Jesus, all good intentions eventually go astray.
Discipleship training ends up raising scholars instead of disciples. Pursuit of the Holy Spirit turns into pursuit of ecstasy. Serving the poor and the helpless becomes a mere social service instead of ministry.
These ills observed in many churches are rarely seen in house churches. I believe the reason is that house churches try to be faithful to the Great Commission, striving to reach non-believers and make them disciples of Jesus. In the process, churches become transparent, authoritarianism disappears, a loving community is formed, and children embrace their parents’ faith.
I believe anyone who desires church renewal should implement the house church instead of just lamenting and criticizing the ills of the church.

물질주의, 성공주의, 권위주의에 물들어있는 교회를 향하여 비판의 목소리를 높이는 사람들이 있습니다. 정화 운동을 일으키기도 합니다. 그러나 이들의 노력에도 불구하고 교회 모습은 달라지지 않고 있습니다.
이러한 노력이 실패하는 이유는, 진단이 잘못되었기 때문입니다. 교회의 다양한 병폐는, 교회가 존재 목적을 상실하고 표류하는 결과입니다. 근본 문제를 치료하려 하지 않고 증상과 씨름하니까 실패하지 않을 수 없습니다.
예수님께서는 마태 28:19~20의 명령을 통해 교회에 사명을 주셨습니다. 영혼구원하여 제자 만드는 것이 교회 존재 목적이라고 선포하셨습니다. 이 존재 목적에 초점을 맞추지 않으면, 아무리 좋은 의도로 시작한 것일지라도, 얼마 안 되어 변질되어버리고 맙니다.
교회 존재 목적에 초점을 맞추지 않은 제자 훈련은, 제자를 키우지 않고 학자를 키웁니다. 교회 존재 목적에 초점을 맞추지 않은 성령 운동은, 신비주의에 빠집니다. 교회 존재 목적에 초점을 맞추지 않은 영성 운동은, 수도원 운동으로 전락합니다. 교회 존재 목적에 초점을 맞추지 않은 사회 참여는, 세속화 됩니다.
가정교회에서는, 일반 교회에서 보는 병폐를 거의 보지 못합니다. 주님이 명하신 교회 존재 목적에 올인했기 때문입니다. 비신자에게 복음을 전하여, 이들을 목자로 세우는데 지속적으로 초점을 맞추었기 때문입니다. 그러다 보니 교회가 투명해지고, 권위주의가 사라지고, 자녀들에게 신앙이 전수되고 있습니다.
진정으로 교회 갱신을 원하는 목회자들은, 가정교회를 진지하게 고려하면 좋겠습니다.
