낯선 예수님? (Walking with Jesus)-영어/한글
American Christians very casually and naturally mention Jesus in conversation. I find that I rarely mention Jesus although I talk about God or the Holy Spirit quite often. When I do mention Jesus, it’s usually in the past tense; Jesus died for our sins, or Jesus rose from the dead.
The foundation of Christian life is having Christ in us, so I felt like I was clearly failing in this aspect. I decided to read books about acknowledging Christ within. I also started asking Jesus for help rather than asking God.
Doing this made me feel like a newly born Christian, which is refreshing! But when I asked Jesus for something, I found myself questioning whether it was proper to ask for these things. I hadn’t experienced such hesitation when I would ask Father God, because I felt He is my daddy who is ready and willing to provide. My hesitation may be evidence that I don’t know Jesus as well as I should. I decided to reread the Bible from cover to cover, focusing on Jesus since both the Old Testament and the New Testament testify about Christ. I have since read the New Testament twice and am presently reading the Old Testament.
I hope doing this will help me know and understand Jesus more deeply and have a closer relationship with Him in my everyday walk.

미국 크리스천들은 자연스럽게 대화 가운데 예수님을 언급합니다. “Thank you, Jesus.” 식으로. 그런데 제 대화 가운데에서 하나님과 성령님은 자주 언급되지만, 예수님이 언급되는 적이 별로 없다는 것을 깨달았습니다. 설혹 예수님이 언급된다 해도 현재형이 아니라 과거형입니다. 우리를 위해 죽으셨다. 부활하셨다. 인류를 구원하셨다 등.
예수님을 높이는 것은 성부 하나님과 성령 하나님의 소원입니다. 그래서 예수님과 더불어 현재를 사는 연습을 하기로 결심했습니다. 예수님의 임재를 훈련하는 ’40 Days with Jesus’와 “Christ in Me”라는 책을 읽었습니다. 처음에는 이래도 되나 싶었지만, 도움이 필요할 때 하나님 대신에 예수님께 도움을 청하기로 했습니다. 하나님 아버지께서 이렇게 하는 것을 오히려 기뻐하시는 것 같았기 때문입니다.
이렇게 하니까, 신앙 생활을 처음 시작하는 것 같은 신선함을 느낍니다. 그런데 어색함도 있습니다. 하나님께 도움을 청할 때에는, ‘아빠’니까 쉬웠는데, 예수님께는 “이런 것을 부탁해도 되나?” 주저함이 생길 때가 있습니다. 이런 주저함은 예수님을 아직도 잘 모르기 때문에 생기는 것 같아, 예수님에 초점을 맞추어 성경을 통독하기로 했습니다.
지금까지 신약 성경을 두 번 읽었고, 현재는 구약을 읽고 있습니다. 이러다 보면 예수님을 좀 더 깊이 알게 되고, 일상 가운데 예수님과 더불어 사는 삶이 더 자연스러워지지 않을까 기대를 합니다.
