하나님을 원망했는가? (Getting Angry with God)-영어/한글
I received an email from a friend some time ago, which in part read:
\"You lost both your parents during the Korean War and were raised by your grandmother. You had to support yourself through college and graduate school. After you earned a PhD and got a good job and were finally able to enjoy a comfortable life, you had to give up your job when God called you to pastoral ministry. Then your wife was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and is still fighting it. Have you ever been angry with God?\"
This email made me ask myself: have I ever been angry with God? The answer was a resounding no! The writer of the email mentioned my wife's battle with cancer, but her illness didn’t actually make me angry. Rather, I am grateful because she’s able to receive the best treatment in the world at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. This was possible because He had called me to pastoral ministry and led me to become the senior pastor of a church in Houston. Furthermore, through my wife’s condition, I experienced the love of many friends who prayed for her and witnessed the power of prayer that kept her healthy for more than 20 years.
Happiness is a gift, not a right. When we consider it a right, we get angry at God when we don’t get what we want or lose what we have. Only when we realize that everything we own is a gift from God are we able to escape resentment when we lose what we have.
Another reason I don’t get angry with God is that God is able to turn something negative into something positive. I have experienced this multiple times. I lost my father when I was young, but it made me appreciate God's fatherly love more. Having an unhappy childhood gave me the ability to truly empathize with unfortunate people.
God also turned my weaknesses into strengths. For instance, it’s hard for me to respond quickly when circumstances change. God used this weakness by making me a long-term planner who prepares well in advance. My personality is not naturally warm, but God used this shortcoming to make me a leader known as someone who doesn't show favoritism.
No, my friend, I have never been resentful toward or angry with God!

어떤 지인이 아래와 같은 이메일을 보내왔습니다. 일부를 옮깁니다.
“목사님 삶을 보면, 어려서 6.25를 겪으시고, 전쟁으로 부모님을 잃으시고, 고학으로 유학 와서, 자리잡을 만 할 때 목회자의 길을 걸으시어, 이곳까지 오셨는데, 사모님이 난소암으로 투병하시게 되니, 보통 사람으로 겪기 어려운 갖가지의 어려움을 겪고 계시다 싶습니다. 목사님께서는 하나님께 섭섭한 적이 없으셨는지?”
“내가 하나님께 섭섭한 적이 있었는가?” 자신에게 진지하게 물어보았습니다. 답은 “없다!”였습니다. 이 분이 글에서 아내의 투병을 언급했는데, 암 연구 분야에서 세계에서 제일 뛰어나다고 인정받는 엠디앤더슨 암 센터에서 치료받게 된 것은, 저를 목사로 불러주시고, 휴스턴에서 목회하도록 하셨기 때문에 가능했습니다. 그래서 감사할뿐입니다. 또 암으로 진단이 난 후 2~3년을 못 넘길 것이라고 했는데 지난 20여년 간 건강한 삶을 살게 해주신 것이 감사하고, 아내를 위하여 기도해 주는 수많은 분들을 주셨다는 것이 감사합니다.
행복은 권리가 아니라 은혜라고 생각합니다. 자기 소유를 권리라고 생각하는 사람은, 가진 것을 잃을 때에 하나님을 원망합니다. 그러나 자신이 가진 것이 은혜라는 것을 아는 사람은 일부분을 잃어도 아직 소유한 것으로 인해 감사하게 됩니다.
하나님을 원망하지 않는 또 하나의 이유는 하나님께서 모든 것을 합력하여 선을 이루시는 것을 경험했기 때문입니다. 하나님께서는 제가 불만이나 불평의 이유가 될 수 있는 것들을 모두 선으로 바꾸어 주셨습니다. 부모님을 일찍 여인 것이 불행이었지만 그 때문에 하나님 아버지의 사랑에 더 감격하게 되었습니다. 불우했던 어린 시절이 아픔이었지만, 이 때문에 남의 아픔에 공감할 수 있는 사람이 되었습니다. 새로운 상황에 순발력을 발휘하지 못하는 것이 단점이었지만, 이로 인해 미리 계획하는 사람이 되었습니다. 성격이 쌀쌀맞았지만, 편애하지 않는다는 칭찬을 듣게 되었습니다.
예, 저는 하나님을 원망하거나 섭섭하게 생각한 적, 한 번도 없습니다.
