중보기도 마음가짐(Praying with Faith)-영어/한글
I have about 400 prayer partners consisting of house church pastors and their spouses. Most of my morning prayer time is spent for praying for them. Sadly, many of them, including young ones, have serious health issues. Lately I realized that, albeit out of compassion, I was subconsciously complaining to God when I pray for them.
“How can this thing happen to them?”
“Why don’t you restore them quickly?”
“Unless you heal them right now, their ministry will end.”
Prayers like these are wrong because they are based on wrong ideas about God. It’s like saying,
“God won’t know unless I inform Him about these situations.”
“God won’t act unless I convince him.”
“God won’t have compassion unless I move Him emotionally.”
All nonsense! So I changed the way I pray. I decided to spend more time meditating on God and confessing His character. Prayer topics are only added briefly at the end.
A typical prayer goes like this.
“Father, Church x is your body and you are their head. You receive their worship and answer their prayers. You love Pastor x like your only son, and his spouse like your only daughter. You called them to ministry and are working through them. You gave leaders the authority to pray and receive answers to prayer. You command leaders to exercise that authority. In obedience, as a leader, I pray for these people and their church.” Then I add prayer topics for the pastor, his spouse and his church.
Praying with faith is not believing you’ll get whatever you want. It means praying with trust in God. My new way of prayer puts me in a trusting state of mind before I present requests. Many of my prayer partners give me credit for their prayers being answered. If this is true, I believe it is because I pray “in faith”.

저는 새벽 기도 시간의 대부분을 약 400명으로 구성된 가정교회 목사님들과 사모님들(153 기도 요원).을 위해 기도하는 데 씁니다. 그런데 젊은 목사 내외조차 크고 작은 건강의 문제로 고통 받고 있는 것을 발견합니다. 안타까운 마음으로 기도하다 보면, 자신도 모르게 원망하는 투로 기도하게 됩니다. “어찌 이런 일이 생길 수 있습니까?\\" “왜 빨리 치료해 주지 않으십니까?” “그냥 두시면 더 이상 목회를 못합니다.”
이런 기도는 하나님에 대한 모욕이라는 것을 최근에 깨달았습니다. 상세하게 설명하지 않으면 하나님께서 모르실 것이다.설득하지 않으면 움직이지 않으실 것이다. 불쌍한 마음을 불러 일으켜야 도우실 것입니다.
이런 마음가짐이 얼마나 잘못된 지를 깨닫고, 중보 기도할 때 하나님에 관해 묵상하는데 많은 시간을 사용하고 중보 기도 내용은 맨 끝에 간단히 붙이기로 결심했습니다. 아래가 한 예입니다.
“하나님께서는 oo 교회를 통해 일하고 계십니다. 주일 예배를 받으시고 이들의 기도를 들으십니다. ooo 목사는 하나님이 사랑하는 외아들입니다. xxx 사모는 하나님이 사랑하는 외동딸입니다. 하나님은 두 사람을 사용하고 계십니다. 하나님께서는 지도자에게 기도의 권세를 주셨습니다. 이 권세를 행사하라는 하나님의 명령에 순종하여 지도자로서 이들을 위해 기도합니다.”
이렇게 서론을 길게 붙이고 끝에 기도 내용을 말합니다. 이렇게 하면 하나님을 원망하는 마음이 아니라, 신뢰하는 마음으로 기도하게 되는 것을 봅니다.
믿음으로 기도한다는 것은, 확신하며 기도한다기보다 하나님을 신뢰하며 기도하는 것이라고 생각합니다. 중보 기도팀원들에게는 1년 후에 기도 신청서를 돌려주어 기도 응답 여부를 점검하고 새로운 기도 제목을 제출하도록 하는데, 많은 기도가 응답 받았다고 합니다. 종종 듣는 말이, “제출한 기도 제목을 잊어버렸었는데, 지금 보니 모두 응답 받았습니다! 목사님 기도 덕분입니다. ” ^^;
제 기도가 응답에 한 몫을 했다면, ‘믿음으로’ 기도했기 때문이 아닌가 생각합니다.
