✝✝✝ A DEMONSTRATION OF GOD AND THE ARGUMENTS
FOR THE EXISTENCE OF CHRISTIAN GOD IN CHRISTIAN APOLOGETICS (44)
by Dr. Paul B. Jang (Ph.D. Christian Apologetics) (¿µ¹®) ✝✝✝

CHAPTER III

SUMMARY, CONCLUSIONS, IMPLICATIONS,
AND RECOMMENDATIONS

From time to time, it was hard for the writer to research, study, and write this dissertation, but it could not have been completed without the love of the Lord, our God, the grace of Jesus Christ, and the guidance of the Holy spirit. It has come to the conclusion of this dissertation. The writer will conclude this dissertation with summary, conclusions, implications, and recommendations.

Summary

In this dissertation the writer surveyed and studied the concept and existence of God through the literatures on the field of that. Most philosophical concepts of God originated from the Hellenic culture, while Hebrew s origin came from the Biblical background. Therefore, Hellenic concept of God is mostly polytheistic, while Hebrew concept of God is monotheistic because of the Biblical God, the Absolute One.

But, coming into the modern times, the concept of God is much existential (Heidegger, Bultmann, Tillich etc.). This existential concept of God has been connected with the death of God theology (Nietzsche, Altizer etc.).

The arguments for the existence of God have been presented since the ancient times. Because the question, Does God exist? has been a vital issue to human life. All philosophers and theologians through all generations have been going astray between metaphysical and physical worlds in order to define and to prove the existence of God.

The methodology for the proofs of God s existence divided into two categories: philosophical and theological one. The philosophical method has employed its starting point from the metaphysical and physical concepts to be understand God as Absolute One or Ultimate Reality in the universe. But The biblical method has absolutely depended upon the concept and proofs of God in the Scriptures.

The former is called the method of rational argument for existence of God, the latter that of Biblical argument. The rational argument was divided into two categories: traditional arguments and other arguments. And Traditional arguments were divided into four categories: ontological, teleological, cosmological, and moral arguments in detail.

And other arguments were divided into six categories: historical, geographical, ethnological, religious, aesthetical argument, and the argument from congruity.

Ontological argument is a priori argument having been approached to metaphysical method of deduction in comparison to the arguments. Teleological argument is a priori argument which proves God s existence by the seeking the cause of purpose. Cosmological arguments is etiological argument because it requires the sufficient effect. Finally, Moral argument is to prove the moral Creator on the basis of the subjective and objective law.

Other arguments include the historical argument which is referred from historical facts, the geographical argument which is the proof that try to geographically and biologically prove the existence of God, the ethnological argument which is inferred from the analysis and explanation of man and proved God s existence, the religious argument which is inferred from the religiosity of man, the aesthetical argument which is the proof inferred from the discovery if the beauty and dignity in the universe, and the argument from congruity which is inferred from the belief in the existence of God.

Such rational arguments have only a little worthy to unbelievers but are not significant to the believers. And also they are limited only to theologically explanation to the existence of God but cannot make the people so that they may believe them. Otherwise only the Bible can do something so that they may believe in God. Therefor the Biblical argument is absolutely important to prove both believers and unbelievers.

In conclusion, No faith in God can convince the people whether they are believers or unbelievers. The faith through which we must accept the words of God can change and convince the people whether or not we are believers. This is very important to all people.

CONCLUSION

This dissertation aimed at the development of an advanced knowledge of the writer, at an improvement of the teaching and preaching abilities of him to the people in the beginning. Fortunately, the results ha¤½¤§ come up to his expectations.
The writer has focused the purpose of this dissertation to such matters. For the purpose of such matters he began to collect, survey, and study the related materials. Survey and study of the materials revealed the following results and conclusions:

1. The study on the concept and existence of God stating that philosophical and Biblical meaning are different from each other was resulted in this dissertation: Philosophical concept of God abstract, symbolic, existential, and impersonal, while Biblical concept of God absolute and personal.

2. Atheists deny such an absolute Being, God whether in the theological fields or in the practical fields. The one is called theoretical atheists, the other practical atheists. The one can properly appeal to whether or not Christian intellectuals, the other to unbelievers even some of Christians.

3. The arguments for the existence of God are not significant to the believers in God, but somewhat to the unbelievers in God. Therefore, these are somewhat meaningful for both believers and unbelievers.

4. The effective proofs for the existence of God must depend upon only the words of God, the Scriptures, and the power of the Spirit. Without the suggestion of the words of God, and unless the touch and power of God, to prove the existence of God is powerless.

5. Theoretically, in fact, the arguments for the existence of God may be possible by the rational arguments, but practically, it is impossible to prove that.
In conclusion, the proof for the existence of God must be supported by the Scriptures and the Holy Spirit, and somewhat it may be, theoretically supported by the rational arguments. But the rational arguments must be only through faith by the grace of God.
